Karnataka governor appoints BJP MLA KG Bopayiah pro-tem speaker
Banglore: Political developments in Karnataka are very exciting. The state governor Vajubhai Vala has taken a controversial decision when the chief minister is preparing for strength in the Yeddyurappa Assembly tomorrow. BJP MLA KG Bopayiah was appointed as the Speaker. He was sworn in within 5 minutes of the order.
The Congress and the JDS have expressed serious objection to Governor Vajpayee’s decision. According to the Congress, it is not advisable to appoint a senior MLA as a protém speaker and ignore their party leader, RV Deshpande, who was an eight-time MLA. The Congress party is reported to have approached the Supreme Court on the decision taken by the governor to appoint BJP MLA KJ Bopaiah as Protest Speaker. Bopaiah has won from the Virajpetta seat in the recent assembly elections. In 2009 he was also the Protem Speaker.
