Kerala’s first Dalit priest takes charge
The Kerala first Dalit priest Yadu Krishnan takes charge and created history . He took charge as the Manapallur Shivalaya priest near Thiruvalla on Monday. The Travancore Temple Council recently selected 36 non-Brahmins as priests along with six Dalits in them. The council manages at least 1,248 shrines in the State, including Sabarimala Ayyappa Swamy Temple etc.,
Yadu Krishnan (22) Son of P.K. Ravi and Leela, Mr. Krishnan (22) had undergone 10 years training in Tantra shastra, practiced Postgradutation (Snatokostavam-PG) education in Sanskrit. After receiving blessings from his Guru K.K. Anirudhman, he entered into shrine in the presence of Mr. Gopakumar Namboodri, chanting mantras, temple officials said.Hailing from Koratty in Thrissur district, Mr. Krishnan is a final year postgraduate student in Sanskrit. He had begun performing pooja at the age of 15 at a local temple near his house.
On November 12, 1936, the Travancore Board made a Constitution enacted by entrusting the temple entrance to entities. The announcement came to light after 81-year Dalit priest took charge as priest.
