A petitioner in 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case dies in road accident

Gopinath Pillai, one of the petitioners in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, has passed away in a road accident on Friday in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. The 76-year-old Pillai was seriously injured in the incident and was admitted to the hospital in Kerala by police. Pillai was the father of Pranesh alias Javed Sheikh, who, along with Ishrat Jahan and two others, was gunned down by the Gujarat Police.

The deceased were identified as Javed Ghulam Sheikh (Pranesh Pillai), Amjad Ali Rana, Zeeshan Johar. However, Gopinath had filed a petition in the court alleging that his son was innocent and which was a fake encounter. Then the rest of the affected families also joined him. The petitioners then argued that the Modi government had killed innocent people for sympathy. (Interesting comments from Lalu’s son on Ishrat).

However, the CBI was investigating the case and the charge sheet was filed by the CBI. The CBI has stated that the Gujarat Police and the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) participated in the encounter. Have a look at this video.
