Rafale deal: Congress alleges ‘huge scam’; Reliance denies it

The Congress party alleges that a major scandal took place behind 36 Rafael jets purchased from France for Indian Air Force (IAF). France condemned the Congress party allegations. Dassault, a France-based company produces Rafael jets. India’s Reliance Defense Limited is partnered with Dassault over Rafale deal.

Reliance Defense Ltd, who responded to the allegations of Congress, warned that company would go for legal action against Congress party if its allegations were not withdrawn. There is a big reason behind Congress allegations over Reliance. The Congress party’s main allegation is that the NDA government has increased the purchase price of Rafael jets to benefit Reliance company owner Anil Ambani.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his French visit in 2015. Discusses with then French Prime Minister Francois Hollande and signed a deal for buying 36 Rafael jets for Rs 58,000 crore. In fact, in 2012, the UPA government has negotiated with France to buy Rafael jets (less than that of the price). While in talks, the deal was stopped when the NDA government came to power in 2014.

The chief of the Air Force spoke to the Prime Minister and explained the need for Rafael jets. The Prime Minister who responded positively made deal with France in 2015. In June 2016, the Indian government allowed 49 per cent of private investment (without any special permission from the government) in the defense sector.

On behalf of Make in India program some of the Rafael jets should be assembled in India. With this Reliance had made Rs. 30,000 crores deal with Dassault Company. The Congress alleged that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a chance to Reliance to become a partner in Dassault Aviation and a big scam was behind the purchase of jets.

France has stated that Congress allegations are baseless, such allegations are not appropriate this allegation were made on political interests. Reliance has become partner with Dassault Aviation in transparent method only. There will be no changes in prices comparatively from 2012 and 2016? Reliance questioned the Congress party. Price will increase when it come for assembling in India. Reliance also warned Congress that they will for legal action if the allegations were not withdrawn.
