Smriti Irani leading in race to be next Gujarat Chief Minister?
Bharatiya Janata Party won in Gujarat assembly elections but it’s not a satisfactory victory! for BJP and Modi. This victory for BJP has been uneasy after a bruising battle with a resurgent Congress under Rahul Gandhi’s new avatar. As Modi faction has gone to the center with leadership crisis and and lack of popular leaders has led to this situation, BJP sources said.
According to sources, the BJP is planning to appoint a new Chief Minister despite Vijay Rupani beating his Congress rival Indranil Rajguru in Rajkot West. The party wants a CM who has strong appeal with the public and a popular figure, who can fulfill the promises made to the electorate and turn a disparate-looking BJP into a cohesive force, the sources added.
With this Union Textiles and I&B minister Smriti Irani is reported to be leading the race. The BJP leaders feel that the party’s future in the state would be good with strong leadership qualities. Smrith Irani who is well-versed in Gujarati and one of Modi’s closest ministers, Irani could be the next CM of Gujarat, said the sources.
But, Smriti Irani has denied the reports saying “I am definitely not a contender.”
The second man in the race is Mansukh L Mandaviya. He is patidar from Saurashtra. He is a well-known leader of the farmer’s bias.
The third person in the race Vajubhai Vala. He has more experience in handling different ministries in Gujarat. He is the incumbent governor of Karnataka and former Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
Arun Jaitley and Team is going to Gujarat to work on this and to submit report over this.
